I based this pirate off a photograph of my dad when he was in his early 20s. The parrot was his pet while I was growing up. Here's the scene that sailed out of my mind while drawing:
The parrot squawked nervously, staggering up and down the pirate's arm in a painful frenzy. "Arrrrr!" He blinked rapidly, his irises sliding back and forth like the waves breaking against their ship. "Arrr you listening?"
The pirate casually rested his hand on his sword hilt, his face calm and unreadable. "Old friend, if you don't shut up and get your talons out of my arm, I'll use your feathers for my next hat,"he murmured, words so soft he barely moved his lips. "That is, unless you plan on getting us both killed first by our uninvited guests."
The parrot immediately clamped his beak shut and stopped moving so fast he nearly fell off. He balanced awkwardly on the pirate's arm for a few precarious seconds, waiting for their visitors to reveal themselves.
PLEASE NOT...
Aquariann enjoys watching petals grow much more than paint dry. That's why she's a flower photographer and illustrator instead of a painter.
